Luke wrote Acts as a continuation of his gospel. In this book Luke recorded the growth of the early church after Jesus ascended to heaven. The first part of the book records the growth of the church in and around Jerusalem. Luke goes on to record the apostle Paul’s conversion and the spread of the gospel throughout the Roman world.

Whatever the method was, the assembly’s confidence that the Lord would make his will known in this way was in accord with Proverbs 16:33: “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD.” Matthias was chosen, and we may assume that he faithfully carried out his assignment. Neither he nor Joseph Barsabbas is mentioned again in the New Testament, but that does not mean they played no role in the church’s mission.
